Nestlé confirms John Newell joining our World Confectionery Conference 2023 plans

Nestlé has confirmed that cocoa ingredient advisor John Newell is set to join our 2023 edition of the World Confectionery Conference, which takes place this autumn in the UK, writes Neill Barston.

The event, which takes place at the Harrogate Convention Centre on 5 October, followed by an additional optional chocolate making day in neighbouring York on 6 October courtesy of York Cocoa House, has built a strong line-up.

Among confirmed companies and organisations for this year’s event are Caobisco European confectionery, biscuits and chocolate industry association, Ferrero, Cargill, Luker Chocolate, Cama, GNT, Royal Duyvis Wiener, Baker Perkins and Fairtrade to name a few, so it’s fast shaping up to be another occasion to remember. Make sure to register promptly for the event at our dedicated website, which provides ongoing updates for the key industry gathering, addressing sustainability issues, innovation and business resilience amid wider market challenges.

For his part, the UK-based Nestlé expert will be discussing his work on new product development from a cocoa ingredients perspective, with the business continuing to innovate through its research and development teams at York. The site remains the major flagship production centre for its core KitKat brand.

“For me the part I find really interesting and am passionate about is making the connection between the ingredients that we’re using, what their characteristics are, and how those change through the processes you use – either fermentation, cooking or flavour development, and the products that you get out of it at the end as far as the products are concerned,” explained the expert of his work in our recent magazine interview, who explained he was looking forward to playing his part in this year’s event. You can see our video interview with him here.

Speaking on his addition to the line-up, Confectionery Production magazine’s editor Neill Barston said: “We offer a warm welcome to John Newell as part of our World Confectionery Conference this year in the UK, with his strong insights into how creating strong flavour pairings for cocoa products is a critical importance for the confectionery sector. Our event is fast taking shape for its British edition, so we sincerely hope as many of you as possible will be able to join us this autumn.

“We are aiming to build upon the success of our previous events, with the encouraging response to last year’s live event offering a strong platform from which to take forward our plans for this year- please do register now if you’re able to now if you’re able to, which helps considerably in our event planning.”
