PLAYin Choc becomes latest confectionery brand attaining B-Corp status

A significant milestone has been achieved by PLAYin Choc sustainable confectionery brand, as it gains B Corp company status, as the ethically focused business joining a select community of over 1,000 UK enterprises in joining the global eco-movement, writes Neill Barston.

As the business noted, it joins a total of over 8,000 companies around the world that have joined the ethical standard, with a number of confectionery firms attaching themselves to the environmental initiative.

Moreover, as the Uk-based brand added, being part of B-Corp will offer it to help further the movement’s ambitions of championing the movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy that considers the planet as much as people.

PLAYin Choc, which has its registered offices in Essex, is one of the few chocolate brands to manufacture in its own Salsa-certified artisan facility. The chocolate is made from the finest, fairly traded, organic, single-origin Peruvian cacao criollo beans and sourced from small family farms. Due to the origin of the cacao PLAYin CHOC sources, this means its supply chain is slave free, child labour free and animal labour free.

Managing Director at PLAYin CHOC, Dominic Simler welcomed the move to become part of the global environmental standard: “We are really proud to become a B Corp certified company and join a select community of ethical businesses across the world making a difference. People increasingly want reassurance that ethical businesses really are practising what they preach. It’s a measure of how businesses care about the people that work within their ecosystem as well as the whole planet.”

As the business added, it has set its stall out to be ethical, transparent and fair: our chocolate is a combination of gently roasted cacao, which is grown on small family-owned farm collectives in Peru using the finest criollo beans (certified slave free, child labour free and animal labour free), Madagascan Bourbon vanilla and vitamin rich Indonesian coconut with a third less sugar than leading chocolate brands. These ingredients are certified by the Soil Association, which enables a reduction in pollution and soil erosion, reduction and elimination of pesticides, increase in soil fertility, and better wages for farmers.

Furthermore, the company supports a diverse range of charities each year through a combination of donations of stock and financial contributions. In addition to this the company donates to further charities from the sales of specific ranges of its PLAYin CHOC ToyChoc Box.

In addition, the environment is at the heart of our organisation: all packaging and toys are made from recyclable card which is FSC and carbon balanced, making PLAYin CHOC plastic-free. Each 10g chocolate is wrapped in 100% plant-based home compostable film, preventing anything from ending up in landfills or the world’s oceans.

Significant, the business added that it is uniquely designed to teach younger generations about our planet’s biodiversity through the educational fun fact cards which can be found in its ToyChoc Box range. These naturally vegan recipe is free-from 14 of the main allergens, including dairy, nut, soy and gluten.
