Event to highlight prospects for European cocoa sector

The current challenges and future prospects for the cocoa and chocolate sector will be the focus of an event taking place in Croatia later this year.

Organised by trade association the European Cocoa Association (ECA), the triennial European Cocoa Forum will host business sessions on a range of topics from climate change to innovation, through cocoa research and regulatory concerns.

The geographical focus of this year’s edition will be Central and Eastern Europe, which will be reflected in a panel discussion on market opportunities and challenges in the region.

Panelists include representatives from the European cocoa industry, as well as from the European Commission, the UN and from centres of excellence for agronomic research both in European and cocoa producing countries.

In addition, the event will offer opportunities for networking with key players in the global cocoa and chocolate sector.

The European Cocoa Association (ECA) groups the major companies involved in the cocoa bean trade and processing, in warehousing and related logistical activities in Europe.

Together, the trade association’s members represent two-thirds of Europe’s cocoa beans grinding, half of the region’s industrial chocolate production and 40% of the global production of cocoa liquor, butter and powder.

The event will take place at the Valamar President Hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from 15-16 September.
