Macalat claims category breakthrough with first certified organic dark sweet chocolate

US confectionery business Macalat has claimed a category breakthrough in delivering a claimed world first certified organic, zero added-sugar, sweet dark chocolate bar, writes Neill Barston.

The business, based in Durham, North Carolina, is set to unveil its latest offering at the American Expo West Event, being staged between 12-16 March at Anaheim, California.

While dark chocolates with sweet notes have been in existence for some period, the company has claimed a point of difference in specifically asserting a new category, sweet dark chocolate, mad with mushroom protein that has been designed to address bitterness associated with darker chocolate varieties.

a has created a new chocolate category, Sweet Dark Chocolate, crafted with mushroom technology to remove the bitter of dark chocolate with zero sugar.

The development team behind the company has described the brand as “a true superfood chocolate’, crafted without sugar, providing a wholesome sugar-free indulgence”.

According to the company, it has incorporated a new flavourless Fermented Mushroom Mycelium Extract, developed by mushroom ingredient innovator, MycoTechnology, Macalat successfully eliminates bitterness and astringency, revealing a full spectrum of cacao and additional flavours that leave no unpleasant mouth feel or aftertaste.

As the business noted, the brand has already been acknowledged by a key US media publication as among top 10 sugar free snacks. In addition, it is also a finalist in the Expo West NEXTY awards in the speciality diet food category. These accolades recognise major developments within the wider natural foods category.

Macalat will be appearing at Natural Products Expo West, booth N416, among a broad array of regional businesses displaying their latest innovations for the fast-rising healthier option food market.
