Mondelēz invests $3m in new Cadbury lines

Mondelēz International has invested A$4 million ($3m) in new equipment at its Cadbury chocolate manufacturing plant in Tasmania, Australia.

The company has invested in components and infrastructure such as moulds and packaging equipment which enabled the factory to make the new Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations Spider range. Mondelēz has also created a new Cadbury Dark Milk range as a result of the investment.

The new technologies installed at the Cadbury factory include a standalone chocolate system, new pipes and storage tanks to manage the new chocolate, as well as a conche which balances the output of milk chocolate when making Cadbury Dark Milk.

“We’ve produced delicious chocolate in Tasmania for around 95 years, so bringing these two exciting new products to Australians, using this new technology, and from a manufacturing site that is just getting better and better makes us extremely proud,” says area vice president Amanda Banfield.

“We have a $25m annual investment fund for Claremont which is continuing to help us improve the site, our products, and to become globally competitive.”

The news comes three months after Mondelēz revealed plans to close its factory in Dunedin, New Zealand, which would end the snack company’s manufacturing operations in the country.

If the proposal is adopted, the first phase of redundancies will take place late in 2017, with around 100 people remaining with the business until early 2018. Production from the Dunedin facility will move into existing factories in Australia.
