Sacmi Packaging and Chocolate to unveil lines at PackExpo and Fachpack
Italian-based Sacmi Packaging & Chocolate is presenting its latest equipment lines for confectionery and bakery lines at this year’s Pack Expo in Las Vegas, US, and also at Fachpack in Nuremberg, Germany next month.
As the firm revealed to Confectionery Production, it will be releasing its latest lines under the concept of automation of smart process management.
For Pack Expo between 23-25 September, it will be showcasing the latest designed solution for the efficient management of the most delicate bakery products.
The company’s system shows a station of a primary and secondary packaging dedicated to biscuits and includes a loading cell provided with “fast picker” robots that are equipped with an exclusive smart pick tooling system. This device allows the handling of both single products and grouped products, synchronising the different phases of the processes.
As Sacmi explained, the primary packaging process has been designed to be both flexible and versatile, beginning with its JT Pro flowpack system.
This is developed to handle a broad range of baked products, specifically with irregular shapes or edges realised in most organically based products and particular to leavened products. These items are then conveyed directly to the active cell which forms the box, and deposits the grouped products within. Finally, the filled boxes are sealed ready for palletising.
The company’s historical brands (Carle & Montanari, OPM and FIMA), which recently became SACMI Packaging & Chocolate, has partnered with many of the major brands in the confectionery and wider food industries.
Consequently, the company’s equipment solutions are approved and certified by its partners, and are focused on delivering return on investment, as well developed with overall equipment efficiency principles.
They also comply with the latest Industry 4.0 standards, which will be highlighted during Fachpack in Nuremberg, scheduled from 24-26 September and will exhibit the latest technological developments that focus particularly on secondary packaging.
The “Smart Cell” solution consists of two independent, complementary modules (the first one for preparing the products and the second one for placing the products onto the formed box) and is designed to reduce the requirements of traditional changeovers, while increasing efficiencies in operations. The first module is fed by two pairs of conveyor belts and a fast picker, while the second unit, equipped with a two-axis robot, picks up the group of products and places them within the formed box.
This platform provides product changeovers at the HMI operator interface as a simple recipe selection. The robot, is configured to automatically place the product on edge, stacked, or in rows to provide the final package configuration.
