Orkla’s ingredients group expands with Swedish acquisition

Scandinavian business Orkla Food Ingredients has acquired Swedish sales and distribution company, Risberg Import, which specialises in product ranges including flavourings and spices.

The deal was achieved through Orkla’s subsidiary, Werners, which produces gourmet products including truffles, chocolate and oils for the confectionery and restaurant trade. It also produces desserts, spices and oils as part of its portfolio.

As Orkla (its recent quarterly results meeting pictured) noted, Risberg has a strong position in high-growth categories in Sweden, with the business being a strong supplier to the country’s grocery and wider food sectors. The companies have agreed not to disclose the value of the acquisition.

“Risberg is well-run company with a recognised brand. It has a strong position in the growing out-of-home channel which rounds out Orkla Food Ingredients’ position in the bakery, confectioner’s and coffee shop segments,” says Thore Svensson, senior vice president Orkla Food Ingredients S&D.

Risberg was founded in 1976, and is currently owned by CEO Björn Vestlund and Sören Storm. The company, which leases its head office and warehouse in Huddinge, outside Stockholm, Sweden, has five permanent employees.

It has grown strongly in recent years, and achieved turnover of SEK 83 million (approximately €7.8m) in 2018. The company will be consolidated into Orkla’s group from this month.
