Palletisers for chocolate and sweets

20 September 2011 – Brynild Gruppen is one of Norway’s largest family owned food groups with near 300 employees, and its production site located in Fredrikstad, Norway.

Brynild Gruppen strives to be the preferred supplier of branded fast moving consumer goods of chocolate, sugar confectionery and nuts to the Nordic market, where the domestic market is the current main market.

“Our business is typically characterised by being very competitive and dynamic, where on time delivery, product and capacity flexibility, and cost efficiency are important ingredients for being competitive from a manufacturing perspective. Consequently, we continuously improve our operations along these dimensions”, says Mathias Holm, director of manufacturing at Brynild Gruppen.

“After one year with reliable operation of our first rented MK1 palletiser from DAN Palletiser for a new chocolate packaging line, employees at the sugar confectionery packaging line were still stacking cartons of finished products manually onto pallets. An obvious good solution for us was to combine the existing palletiser with another MK1 palletiser from DAN Palletiser. Not only would this meet our demands on machine reliability, but it would also further reduce the amount of heavy workload onto operators and the risk for sickness leave”, continues Holm.

The palletising solution is based on two MK1 palletisers including pallet dispensers, more roller conveyors and a transfer car, palletising from two production lines. One line with bagged chocolate in cartons, and the second line with jelly products and hard candy in cartons. The sizes of the cartons vary between 265×400 mm and 395×265 mm. The capacity demand is six cartons per minute per packaging line.

The pallet dispensers have room for ten to 15 empty pallets. The production feeds two different products to the palletisers. The full pallets are conveyed to the loading position on pallet conveyors. Via a transfer car the full pallets from both lines are taken to a stretch wrapper. After the stretch wrapping the pallets are ready for distribution. A software application controls pallet patterns and pallet loading efficiency.
