Capol gains major AA British Retail Consortium food safety rating

German-based confectionery surface treatment specialist Capol receives the major accolade of BRC Food “AA” classification in this year’s BRC surveillance audit for the quality of its safety standards.

As the business noted to Confectionery Production, having achieved “A” grade last year, this remarkable level of certification clearly demonstrates the company’s relentless commitment to quality and food safety.

With the certification according to the standards put forth by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), Capol complies with the highest food safety standards in the food-manufacturing industry.

The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety provides a framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality, quality, and the operational controls for stated criteria in the food and food ingredient
manufacturing and processing industry. It is a well-established standard and as a certification program recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) which is trusted by retailers and buyers worldwide as a mark of the highest standards in food manufacturing.

Furthermore, the certification process includes a three-day audit at the company production site (manufacturing related and relevant administrating departments). The audit is performed assessing the rigorous standards covered in the applicable sections of the BRC Global Standard, including senior management commitment, HACCP, product and process controls.

After auditing, independent food-safety auditor and certification body DQS CFS awarded Capol with an “AA” rating for adhering to the aforementioned standards. “The quality and safety of our products are our top priority”, says Anke Cohrs-Wolff, head of quality assurance at Capol.

“It is our own demand to live up to the highest possible standards and we are proud that our achievements have been recognised and rewarded with this exceptional grade.”

The audit according to the benchmarks of the British Retail Consortium is only one part in the extensive quality management system of CAPOL, which is certified according to ISO 9001:2015. A broad range of certifications affirms customer’s confidence in Capol products, for example the company regularly undergoes Bio, halal, kosher and RSPO audits as well as SMETA audits as a Sedex member.
