Cadbury and Mars emerge as global ‘top of the chocs’
An international study has revealed that Cadbury Dairy Milk is the most popular chocolate bar in the world.
The classic British favourite, owned by parent company Mondelēz International, emerged as the top product in 78 countries including India, United Arab Emirates, and South Africa.
As Leisure, the range cooker brand behind the latest study, noted, that Dairy Milk received on average a total of 466,680 searches annually, according to Google analysis.
Taking second place in the all-time favourites list – which had by the far the greatest level of actual searches at 816,840, was the Mars Bar. The brand was highest rated by consumers in 50 countries, taking top spot in the United Kingdom, United States, and Switzerland.
Together, these two brands account for 167 countries’ overall favourite chocolate bars, with Cadbury’s chocolate (of some form) being the favourite within 117 countries. Both chocolate giants were founded in Britain: Cadbury in 1824 in Birmingham, and the Mars Bar in 1932 in Slough, proving
that the United Kingdom has a huge heritage when it comes to its confectionery heritage.
Third on the top of the chocs list was Tony’s Chocolonely bars, which topped 10 countries most searched for range, with 458,786 internet hits, fourth was Cadbury Caramilk (163,680), and fifth, the Lindt Excellence Bar.
Vijay Bhardwaj, marketing director at Leisure, said: “We all have our own personal go-to chocolate brands that we love to indulge in when we’re craving a sweet treat, which is why it’s so interesting to see the range of different favourites around the world.”
“With such a wide array of choice out there, it’s interesting to see that some of the more plain chocolate bars such as Cadbury Dairy Milk and Tony’s Chocolonely Bar have made the top five most popular chocolate bars, showing that when it comes down to it, no matter where you’re from, it seems we’re all just looking for some great quality chocolate.”
