Continued investment in British confectionery business Fudge Kitchen has been delivered, as the company welcomes visitors to its new Chester store, as its UK retail reach expands, writes Neill Barston.

The company’s latest outlet, which adds to its network across the South of England, is the firm’s first opening in a decade, founded on the company’s ethos of delivering engaging live demonstrations, and inventive premium grade products.

Notably, the business, which last year claimed honours at our World Confectionery Conference, has officially opened its new site in the centre of historic Chester, at  6–8 Watergate Street, with the company maintaining its employee-owned operating model.

As the firm noted, visitors can watch expert fudge makers create batches of silky-smooth fudge by hand throughout the day using traditional techniques refined over more than 40 years. Made with fresh whipping cream and natural ingredients, every batch is crafted on marble tables in full view of customers, offering a key sensory experience.

The Chester opening also represents an important milestone in the company’s sustainability journey. The shop is the first Fudge Kitchen location to operate entirely on renewable electricity, using fully electric cooking equipment powered by renewable energy as part of the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

Ian McCluskey, Retail Director at Fudge Kitchen, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the warm welcome we’ve received from the people of Chester and the business community since opening our doors.

“Our shops are much more than places to buy fudge – they’re places where people can experience traditional craftsmanship, meet our passionate makers and enjoy something genuinely memorable. Chester is a fantastic city with a thriving independent retail scene, and we’re delighted to now be part of its community.”

The business was originally founded in 1983, and has built a loyal following through its handcrafted confectionery, commitment to quality ingredients and unforgettable in-store experiences.

Alongside its Chester opening, the company operates successful stores in Bath, Canterbury, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Windsor and York, while also supplying luxury retailers including Harrods, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason and Claridge’s, with its core manufacturing headquarters in Wingham, Kent.

The company has in recent years enjoyed particular success in targeting premium markets, with an especially strong focus on creating unique flavours that have continued to win it notable plaudits.
