Multivac packaging to complete takeover of Fritsch bakery group

The global Multivac packaging group is set to complete the acquisition of the German-based Fritsch bakery business.

With operations around the world, Multivac’s portfolio includes a wide range of automation solutions, as well as labellers and quality control systems. The company said that the takeover would further complement its existing systems, enabling complete production lines to be developed for the bakery sector.

Fritsch, founded in 1926, and based in Markt Einersheim in Lower Franconia, had filed for insolvency earlier this year. It specialises in high-performance equipment and technology for dough forming and processing.

The company’s solutions have been developed for small operations, through to industrial-scale equipment to a broad base of customers around the world. It generated a turnover of €80 million in 2018, employing 600 people, with subsidiaries in Russia, UK, Poland and the US.

“The takeover of Fritsch is another important step in expanding our range of integrated solutions for processing and packaging food products. Thanks to these processing solutions, we will continue to extend our presence in the bakery industry, where we have already been able in recent years to implement some very challenging projects for automated packaging solutions,” said Christian Traumann, director and group CFO of Multivac.

According to Multivac, the move will take effect from August 1,  with the manufacture and development of Fritsch products continue at its existing headquarters site, which also has technology centre. The company’s products will be sold through Multivac’s sales and service network.

Investment will be made at Multivac’s subsidiaries in creating specialised sales teams for the bakery industry, so that in future it will be possible to offer customers integrated solutions for manufacturing and packaging bakery products. In addition to the management in place, a Multivac management team will be appointed to run the company, and this will direct and develop the Fritsch Group as a stand-alone business.

“We are very pleased at the successful takeover of the Fritsch Group, and we are also convinced that our management will make an important contribution to the recovery of the company. The company is an industry leader in bakery equipment and has an excellent reputation in the market. Thanks primarily to the integration of Fritsch products in our line solutions, we see great synergy potential, which will make a major contribution to the healthy development of Fritsch in future,” says Guido Spix, director and group CTO/COO of Multivac.
