Momentum gathers for this year’s Interpack

With just several months to go, there is already a strong sense of anticipation surrounding this year’s Interpack taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany.

That was clearly apparent from Ishida’s pre-event press conference at its UK headquarters this week, as final preparations for the global packaging extravaganza near finalisation.

The last event three years ago was testament to its appeal, with a total of 170,000 trade visitors across the week-long event that showcased a host of equipment and systems innovations. Confectionery and bakery markets are set to play a major role in proceedings.

Consequently, there’s optimism that the footfall figures from 2017 can be matched again, despite market trends showing that competition for attracting visitors is more fierce than ever.

As Thomas Dohse, deputy director of Interpack (pictured) explained at the press event,“ the food and drink sector is facing challenges,” which he noted that industry is responding to in terms of how machinery and materials are used within marketplaces.

In terms of its themes, Dohse explained that designing sustainable, energy efficient equipment is set to be among the cornerstone themes of the trade fair.
Another topical item high on the agenda is the continuing drive for responding to greater demand for auatomisation of machinery, and industry 4.0 agendas relating to advanced data management driving greater business efficiency.

There is also likely to be plenty of interest in the event’s centrepiece conference, “Life Without Packaging” which will shine a much-needed light on the urgency of balancing environmental protections, with sustainable business practices in terms of designs of packaging and consumers’ desire to bring about drastic changes in global policy on tackling waste and pollution.

As for its precise plans for its own exhibition appearance, Ishida enthused that it will be returning to the event with its multihead weighing systems, packing and quality control solutions such as its including x-ray inspection equipment, as well as full turnkey lines will be represented.
