Marking its 60th anniversary, Schubert has reflected on a successful appearance at this year’s interpack event, which saw several key launches at the event, reports Neill Barston.

Speaking to Confectionery Production, the German-based packaging machinery specialist enthused that there had been an extremely strong reaction from visitors to the show, which saw some 127,000 people head to Düsseldorf’s Messe halls last month.

Among the firm’s core technology on display across its 784 square metre stand was its advanced new TLM Lightline, and Tog system, both designed handle a wide variety of handling packaging tasks across industries including the confectionery and snacks sectors.

Marcel Kiessling, managing director of sales for Schubert, noted to our title: “Sixty years is a pretty important milestone for us, after Gerhard Schubert founded the company back in 1966. Many things have happened since then in the markets that we are serving, so we are very proud to be turning 60 as a family-owned company, with a third generation of the Schubert family taking on more responsibility, focus on the future for our customers.”

As the company noted, the first day of the event saw Marcel, alongside Ralf Schubert, Managing Partner, vividly outline how Schubert is successfully navigating challenging market conditions.

Significant growth in the Group’s overall performance, a strong turnkey business and a steady stream of orders in core markets all point to a bright future for the machinery manufacturer.

As the business also observed, another equally important issue was PPWR. The EU regulation on the reduction of packaging waste, which will come into force in August, has been a concern for the industry for years. Questions regarding implementation, machine compatibility and material selection need to be addressed to ensure that packaging remains legally compliant in the EU beyond 2030. The need for guidance, discussion and solutions for more sustainable packaging was high – prompting dialogue between the team from Schubert’s Packaging Competence Center and trade visitors. With the PCC, Schubert is offering a platform that comprehensively addresses technical and regulatory packaging issues.

Furthermore, the PCC team was available to answer questions at its own exhibit area. “The EU regulation calls for close collaboration between many stakeholders, from packaging machine manufacturers to recyclers and material suppliers,” explains Michael Graf, Head of Schubert’s PCC. “Trade visitors were extremely interested in the contribution we can make as a machinery manufacturer. This highlights that the PCC plays a vital role as a liaison between packaging companies, the machinery sector and other industries.”
