Iceland’s Omnom Chocolate draws on winter traditions for latest Christmas season series

Icelandic premium chocolate company Omnom Chocolate has sought inspiration from its Christmas seasonal traditions for its latest winter collection of three new flavoured bars, writes Neill Barston.

Its latest series is wrapped in a distinctive black and gold gift box, and includes its spiced white and caramel variety, taking its cue from the fact that at this time of year, most households in the island nation have a carafe on the table filled with a mixture of orange soda and malt, known as Jólaöl. As a tribute to this traditional Icelandic drink, this bar features a spiced, malted white chocolate topped with orange peel and crunchy caramel.

For its second offering, the company, which we recently featured in an exclusive video interview for Confectionery Production, has developed a milk and cookies flavour, made in collaboration with Brauð og Co. using almonds, steel cut oats, and plenty of ginger and cinnamon. The cookie used here is then placed on top of Omnom’s signature Milk of Madagascar chocolate bar.

As the business explained in our feature, its close-knit team has been passionate in devising an ever-expanding series of flavours and tastes, some of which are able to draw on the unique characteristics of Iceland. The company has gained considerable exposure since featuring on a Netflix show with Zac Efron last year, and is now marketed in the US, and is expanding its operations into Europe.

For its final offering this Christmas, its dark nibs and raspberry flavour is a dark chocolate topped with holiday red raspberries for a perfect sweet and tart taste, paired with a dashing amount of Madagascar cacao nibs sprinkled on top. The trio of bars is available on omnomchocolate.com
