Interpack organisers offer exhibitor discounts, as plans continue for its 2021 event

The organisers of the major Interpack packaging and processing event in Germany have confirmed plans are continuing with the event for its revised dates of 25 February to 3 March, 2021, following industry consultation, reports Neill Barston.

As Messe Düsseldorf explained to Confectionery Production, it has taken feedback from trade association partners, as well as the fair’s advisory board in relation to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that forced the sector showcase to be rescheduled from last year.

Significantly, organisers acknowledged that the covid situation has led to fears of lower visitor numbers – and are consequently offering discounted participation conditions, as well as confirming a temporary right to termination for exhibitors unable to now participate.

The announcement follows a decision from the German government that the country was placed in a month-long ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown throughout November aimed at restricting the further spread of of the virus, a route now adopted by other nations including Belgium, France and also the UK.

German chancellor Angela Merkel is reported to have told national media that such major action was necessary to ‘avoid an acute national health emergency,” as Europe continues to be impacted by the pandemic.

However, there was renewed optimism of progress against coronavirus with the announcement this week surrounding Pfizer’s development of a covid vaccine that has shown 90% effectiveness in combatting the disease, which is planned to be rolled-out from next month.

Project Director Thomas Dohse commented on the state of the event’s preparations. He said: “We fully understand the reservations and concerns of our exhibitors in the current situation. On the other hand, we have also received feedback on how important personal exchange is for our customers and what significance Interpack has for the processing & packaging industry. In this respect, we believe that with our offer we can best protect the interests of all parties involved and would like to thank our partners for their constructive cooperation.”

Interpack 2021 will take place with an already field-tested hygiene and infection protection concept, which will enable exhibitors and trade visitors to meet safely in the exhibition halls. For further information, visit www.interpack.com.
