An innovative link-up between the classic Toblerone brand and Swarovski has been forged in the form of limited edition crystal replicas of the original chocolate series for a special charitable auction, reports Neill Barston.

Billed as ‘the ultimate gift’ – the creators of this one-off project delivered a youtube video of the creation process of the striking new offering (below), offering a tongue-in-cheek reminder to those bidding for a slice of confectionery and art history: “please don’t try to eat it’ as its highlights the craftsmanship between the hand-made series.

Moreover, Toblerone has long been associated with the travel gifting market, and has been re-imagined in this Individually numbered, certified limited production run collectable item.

As the company explained, until 31 July,  travellers passing through some of the world’s most iconic airports (Athens, Delhi, Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Madrid, New York JFK, Singapore and Zurich) will encounter a mesmerising pop-up experience celebrating both brands and, above all, will have the chance to bid in person as part of a special series of charitable auctions for the Toblerone Crystal Bar crafted by Swarovski.

Furthermore, as the company added, each auction is linked to the airport’s own established charity partner – 100% of winning bids will be donated to the designated charity at each location, though the auction is also available to participate in online.

Notably, the Mondelez international brand hit headlines recently in the UK, as a decision was made to discontinue the dark version of its classic chocolate version of the distinctive triangular treats.

The peak has also recently been removed from its packaging, much to the disappointment of fans, as Swiss laws prohibited the use of the mountain on packs – due to the fact the brand is now no longer exclusively produced in Bern, Switzerland, with some of its manufacturing shifting to cheaper production sites in Slovakia.
