The Caobisco European chocolate, biscuit and confectionery sector trade body has unveiled Marco Baldoli, as its secretary general from this April, reports Neill Barston.

As the key organisation noted, the senior executive has notable experience at EU public affairs, and takes over the role leading the influential group from its former leader, Muriel Korter, who departed last year after many years representing the region’s industry.

For his part, Baldoli has previously been Secretary General of FERM, the European Federation of Rice Millers, and of TomatoEurope, the EU tomato processing industry. He is also currently serving as Vice-President at SEAP, The Society of European Affairs Professionals.

Tobias Bachmüller, President of Caobisco, who will be joining our World Confectionery Conference as a keynote speaker when it moves to being staged in London on 10 September, welcomed the new appointment.

He said: “We are delighted to welcome Marco Baldoli as Secretary General of Caobisco. Marco brings strong experience in association management and EU public affairs, and a proven ability to build consensus and translate complex regulatory developments into actionable strategies for members.

“We look forward to working with him as the sector navigates an important period for European food policy and competitiveness.”

As the group noted, he has considerable experience in association management, with core expertise in European regulation and public affairs, covering  monitoring policy, shaping advocacy strategies, driving membership growth and increasing awareness of sector priorities.

Furthermore, he has built strong connections within Brussels, which is the administrative HQ for Caobisco, working across institutions, industry and civil society.

He has also worked as a legal consultant in  Rome and London, before moving to Brussels to join FoodDrinkEurope, as well as holding a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.) from La Sapienza University of Rome.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: ““I am honoured to join Caobisco and to serve its members. Europe’s chocolate, biscuit and confectionery sector is an important contributor to jobs, innovation and Europe’s food culture. I look forward to working closely with members and stakeholders to support a competitive, sustainable and resilient sector, and to ensure Caobisco remains a constructive and effective voice in EU policy debates.”
