Having served twenty years with the Bühler Swiss-headquartered equipment and systems business, Samuel Schär has taken up the role as its new CEO, reports Neill Barston.

He takes on the role at a pivotal moment in the company’s development, as it seeks to evolve its offering to customers across sectors, including the confectionery, snacks and bakery market segments, as well as the wider food and drink industry.

As previously reported by our title, Schär has succeeded Stefan Scheiber (below), who is being proposed as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in February 2026.

Moreover, as the company revealed at its Networking Days event last June, the business has continued to make significant progress against its environmental performance targets that sit at the heart of its sustainability plans for its global operations in machinery and systems development.

Significantly, the company stated that it had made strides in 11 out of 15 of its raw ingredient categories attaining at least 35% reductions, including in cocoa production, ancient grains, barley production for beer, as well as in animal proteins, which the business pledged to continue work on improving even further.

Speaking on his appointment,  Samuel Schär, welcomed the opportunity to lead the company, which he originally joined to form the Nanotechnology business unit.

The former physics graduate, who had studied at Lausanne in Switzerland, then led the Grinding & Dispersing business area for several years, before joining the Group Executive Board in 2013 and successfully leading the Advanced Materials segment for 10 years. He later took over responsibility for the Global Services & Sales organisation.

“More than ever, Bühler has an important role to play in the sustainable transformation of the food, feed, and mobility industries. I am excited to lead the company into its next stage of development. Our focus will remain on creating value for our customers, driving meaningful innovation, and growing our business sustainably. Together with our global teams, we will continue to build strong partnerships and deliver solutions that enable our customers’ success,”  noted the company’s new CEO.

Meanwhile, Stefan Scheiber will be nominated for election as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bühler Group at the company’s next Annual General Meeting, scheduled for February 2026.

With a 35-year career at Bühler, Stefan Scheiber has been a member of Group Management for 20 years in various areas of responsibility and has held the position of CEO for 10 years. Calvin Grieder, current Chairman of the Board of Directors, will step down at the Annual General Meeting after 25 successful and formative years as CEO.
