Nestlé eyes blockbuster success with KitKat Chunky salted caramel limited edition

Nestlé has moved to further extend its KitKat Chunky series of bars with a limited edition salted caramel popcorn flavour this summer, writes Neill Barston.

Its fresh addition to its UK range is timed amid the traditional summer blockbuster movie season, which is just beginning to get back on track as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted for cinemas and theatres.

The latest addition comes in the form of a 42g bar with the brand’s classic wafer alongside an indulgent layer of salted caramel popcorn filling, covered by smooth milk chocolate.

As the business noted, caramel is the most popular milk chocolate variant in the UK, purchased by 64% of all UK households. Meanwhile, penetration of salted caramel has trebled in the last four years, and one in four shoppers have tried a salted caramel product.

Callum Smith, assistant brand manager for KitKat explained that delivering regular flavour innovations remained a key priority for the company, with its latest release being unveiled from 2 August.

He said: “We think our newest Chunky is unlike anything else currently on the market, making it a fun and exciting proposition for shoppers to try. It not only delivers on taste and texture, but with its retro red and white striped packaging, it looks great too.

“Whether it’s for a special afternoon treat, a trip to the cinema or simply to put a smile in your break, we believe this is one of our best KitKat Chunky flavours yet – and we hope consumers agree!”
The 42g limited edition bars (RRP 70p) will be available in a wide range of major UK retailers, including wholesale and convenience stores. It will be supported with social media and out of home activation that will also include KitKat Chunky Milk and KitKat Chunky Peanut Butter.

KitKat Chunky was launched in 1999 and over the years it has been frequently innovated to deliver exciting flavours, including Peanut Butter, Hazelnut, Coconut, Chocolate Fudge and New York Cheesecake.
