Ethically-founded British confectionery business Plamil has enhanced its operations in gaining Fairtrade certification for cocoa as it moves to meet demand in chocolate production, writes Neill Barston.
As the company, based in Folkestone, and is due to speak at our upcoming World Confectionery Conference this September in London, its latest development has been driven by a rising number of customers seeking product ranges that carry enhanced levels of identifiably sustainable credentials within the chocolate confectionery sector.
Moreover, as Plamil noted, it has continued to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities from its Kent base, and the addition of Fairtrade certification provides customers with greater flexibility when sourcing chocolate as an ingredient or working with its teams as a specialist chocolate co-packing partner.
This certification sits alongside existing offerings, giving brands the option to offer Fairtrade across UK and international markets if required.
Furthermore, the certification development follows Plamil’s recent investment in its co-packing facilities, including the installation of highly flexible pouch-filling technology. This enables the company to support new product launches, range extensions, and brands requiring adaptable and responsive packing options.
The Fairtrade certification reinforces Plamil’s long-standing ethical commitment while ensuring it can meet the diverse commercial and certification requirements of its customers worldwide.
Adrian Ling, CEO of Plamil, commented: “We are very proud to now offer Fairtrade-certified cocoa in our chocolate. This gives our business customers a wider choice of certifications, whether they are emerging brands or established high-volume manufacturers.”
Alongside its BRCGS certification, Plamil remains focused on innovation and flexibility, supplying a comprehensive range of chocolate products tailored to a variety of specifications. This latest certification marks another milestone in Plamil’s ongoing commitment to delivering one of the widest selections of chocolate products, certifications, and cocoa origin options available in the market.
