German-founded premium chocolate brand Ritter Sport has named Christian Boulter as its new sales director for the UK and Ireland, as the business continues to expand its presence within the region including within supermarket and travel retail sectors, writes Neill Barston.

The company’s latest appointee follows in the footsteps of Jamie Lowe, who had helped steer the well-established business forward during its decade of activity in the UK, which has seen a number of pivotal chocolate launches in recent years.

For its part, Christian Boulter has been charged with accelerating growth across its channels, and as the company confirmed, brings over 25 years of senior commercial and sales leadership experience across some of the UK’s most recognisable FMCG brands, including Kraft Foods, Britvic, Campbell’s and Symington’s.

Moreover, as the business noted, he is set lead a senior commercial team as it embarks on a new chapter of development, which will be focused on leveraging the brand’s premium positioning, flavour innovation, and sustainability credentials to stand out in a highly competitive category.

As the business noted, his appointment comes at a time of strong performance for Ritter Sport in the UK & Irish markets, with the brand achieving significant double-digit growth and delivering incremental category value across grocery retail. With a proven track record of building market-leading brands, Boulter will focus on deepening existing retail partnerships, expanding national distribution, and maximising brand visibility across grocery, convenience and out-of-home sectors.

Ritter Sport has previously played its part in our World Confectionery Conference, which this year takes place on 11 September in Brussels, Belgium, and has gained strong acclaim for its approach to sustainable sourcing of cocoa, which has included the development of its own facilities at its El Cacao site in Nicaragua.

Commenting on his appointment, Christian Boulter said: “We’re in a strong position with grocery, especially in convenience formats, where we’ve already secured notable gains in Sainsbury’s Local and Tesco Express. But there’s even more headroom in impulse-driven channels, where confectionery plays a critical role in shopper missions.

“This is a brand with huge opportunity for growth,” he added. “We’ve built strong momentum, now the focus is scaling that success to unlock our full commercial potential.”
