Eagle-eyed fans of Nestle’s flagship KitKat brand have spotted a new hazelnut variety on UK supermarket shelves at Sainsbury’s, after the variant had previously only gained a release in Australia, reports Neill Barston.
Notably, as of this week, the retailer’s website had sold out of the latest flavour offering, which follows in a long line of key releases and is being sold in packs of four bars priced at 85p.
The four-pack contains four crispy wafer fingers with hazelnut milk chocolate (66%), and has been made with Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa.
It is not in fact the first time that the flavour has appeared in British stores, with the company previously offering a version of the KitKat Chunky hazelnut in 2023 for British consumers.
As Confectionery Production has previously reported from the company’s York production site, the brand has continued to gain strong market share for its flagship brand’s British manufacturing.
Last month, the brand released a special Twelve Days of Breakmas chocolate calendar, as well as the company unveiling its first ever KitKat Christmas shapes.
Notably, the brand has gained a strong reputation for offering a host of flavours have included a dark chocolate offering that made a recent welcome return, white chocolate, as well as cookies and cream and even a birthday cake offering for US customers.
Moreover, in Japan, consumers have gone one further in recent years, with the region playing host to the ‘chocolatory’ in which fans could tap into an even more expanse array of flavours. This has spanned everything from matcha tea and raspberry ice cream options, through to a ruby chocolate version that it had initially launched through a deal with Barry Callebaut.
Furthermore, the company has expanded its interests into other product segment areas including last summer devising Hot Chocolate KitKat pods, which expanded on its overall offering to customers in the region.
