Confectionery export rates continue to rise for Turkish exhibitors at ISM

The Istanbul Cereals Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association is organising the Turkish National Pavilion of the ISM fair for the 19th time in 2019, with participation of over 30 companies.

Founded in March 1940, the association has grown to include over 1,000 member companies. This includes producers/exporters of cereals, confectionery and cacao products, bakery products, vegetable oils, seeds, pulses, milling products and spices. In addition, it is also the very first exporters’ association founded in Turkey.

The main activity of the association is to implement the rules and regulations of export procedure designed by the Ministry of Trade. In a sense, the association is a bridge between the Ministry and Turkish exporters.

The Association aims to assist, motivate and drive exporters to reach new markets, prepare them future developments and help to increase their sales as well as raising the quality of their products.

Some of the tasks and functions of the association to reach its aim include providing consultancy for its members, organising conferences, courses and seminars, arranging trade missions and buying missions, as well as organising trade exhibitions around the world.
In addition, it also prepares reports on trade data to keep track of change in trade flows and inform its members, as well as performing other duties given by the Ministry of Trade.

Field of Activity

Confectionery by volume has a rate of 75 per cent among the total exportation volume realised by the members of the association, but still, the association has a range field of activity, divided into categories below;

1. Cereals, pulses milling products and spices
Pulses (pulses, soy bean, peanuts, shelled peas, chickpeas, beans, lentils (red, green), yellow interior lentils, broad beans, black-eyed peas, other legumes etc.)
Cereals (Bread wheat, durum wheat, barley, corn, oat, rice, maize)

Milling Products (wheat flour, starch, semolina, yeast, pellets, rye, other cereals etc.)
Spices (including Chillies, black pepper, red peppers, sweet peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves)

2. Vegetable oils and oil seeds
Vegetable oils (Soybean oil, sunflower seed oil, peanut oil, cotton seed oil, etc.)

3. Processed agricultural products
Sugar Confectionery (all kinds of confectionery, chewing gums etc.)
Cacao Products (chocolate, cacao and cacao powder, food preparations containing cocoa)
Bakery Products (biscuits, bakery products, pastry, wafer, waffle, cakes etc.)

One of the main duties of the Association is to organise the national participation of Turkish companies to the international exhibitions. ISM in Koln/Germany, Alimentec in Bogota/Colombia, Expo Antad and Alimentaria in Guadalajara/Mexico, Sweets&Snacks Expo Fair in Chicago/USA, Prodexpo and World Food Moscow Fairs in Moscow/Russia Federation.
According to the sector classification of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly; Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products is the biggest sub-sector in agricultural products industry in terms of total export volume.

Turkey’s cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products export was worth $6.37 billion in 2017, while 28 per cent is realised by members of our association.
The country’s confectionery export was $2.37 billion in 2017, while more than 50 per cent is attained by members of the association.
The volume of exports achieved by its members experienced a 9 per cent increase in first three quarters of 2018 in comparison to the same period last year.
