pladis CEO Cem Karakas steps down

The pladis confectionery and biscuits group has confirmed that the company’a CEO Cem Karakaş, has decided to step down from his role with immediate effect.

He will take a leave of absence from his role as deputy chairman of parent company Yildiz Holding, for family health reasons. He will be retained as an advisor to the United Biscuits UK Board.

Jim Zaza, pladis Senior Board Member and Chairman of United Biscuits UK, will step into the role of Interim pladis CEO. Zaza has been an executive on the pladis board since its inception and has previously held senior executive positions at PepsiCo, Black and Decker and Eastman Kodak.

The Board has commenced a formal search and selection process to identify a new CEO, but no further details are available yet as to a potential successor.

Pladis is home to beloved brands including McVitie’s and Ulker, as well as distributing Godiva chocolates exclusively for consumer-packaged goods channels around the world. In addition, the company also owns regional brands such as Jacob’s, go ahead!, Carr’s, Flipz, BN, Verkade and many more, delighting consumers with products across the snacking category including sweet and savoury biscuits, wafer, cake, chocolate, gum and candy.
