Moving into Ireland
North East confectionery manufacturer Sweetdreams is set to further expand outside of its northern heartland after securing two significant new distribution listings.
Appleton Sweets and Alderwood Confectionery are the latest wholesalers to supply Sweetdreams’ range of quirky chocolate treats, Choc Nibbles. The announcement of the distribution deals follows the recent unveiling of Sweetdreams’ ambitious plans to achieve double digit growth in 2015.
The partnership with Alderwood Confectionery will see Sweetdreams extend its distribution and wholesale network to Northern and Southern Ireland, while the listing to supply Appleton Sweets directly will strengthen the brand’s existing foothold in Southern England.
Combined, the new deals will increase the Northumberland-based family firm’s production significantly as it supplies both distributors with its full range of Choc Nibbles products, including Original Choc Nibbles, Original Toffee Crumble and Choc Lick in a variety of formats including the new 200g sharing bags, 3kg jars as well as 5kg and 10kg bulk options.
Matthew Stephenson, managing director of Sweetdreams, says: “The popularity of Choc Nibbles as a quirky treat available at the best price is continuing to grow significantly outside of our native northern territory, and we’re excited to announce new partnerships with Alderwood Confectionery in Northern and Southern Ireland and Appleton Sweets in London.
“As part of our ongoing growth strategy we’ve been working to extend the Choc Nibbles brand into new markets and also identifying export opportunities. With Alderwood Confectionery’s established wholesale and distribution network in Ireland and as Appleton Sweets is one of the UK’s leading food cash and carries specialising in wholesale sweets and bulk chocolates, both companies are perfectly aligned to our expansion plans.”
Since taking over the business in 2007 after buying out its former owners, the Stephenson family has grown Sweetdreams to an 11-strong team, more than doubled turnover and has invested over £80,000 in its Cramlington factory following a grant secured from Arch Northumberland to increase production capability and to diversify into new packaging formats.
As part of its growth strategy, Sweetdreams recently outlined ambitions to grow turnover by 10 per cent year-on-year by increasing its national footprint and introducing new product lines to its Choc Nibbles range.
