Dutch-founded impact brand Tony’s Chocolonely has entered the summer confectionery space with a ne sweet and salty Popcorn Crunch range within its 180g bar series, reports Neill Barston.

As the B-Corp, Fairtrade certified company explained, its latest treat combines two favourite film snacks into one chunky bar, which is packed with roasted, caramelised popcorn pieces and covered in Tony’s’ signature milk chocolate.

Promising a  nostalgic hit of moreish crunch and sweet, its roasted corn notes have been developed to take you straight back to your favourite cinema, with each bar features Tony’s signature unequally divided design.

The ranges is made from 100% traceable cocoa beans, and as the business added, the sector remains under considerable strain from a number of mounting challenge. From  climate shocks and crop diseases in Ghana and Ivory Coast, where two thirds of the world’s cocoa for the confectionery sector is grown, have caused yields to decline.

As the company noted, because of poverty, there has been systematic lack of investment in cocoa farmers and their farms, it also causes child labour and deforestation – which are being addressed with upcoming EUDR deforestation legislation in Europe, and parallel due diligence frameworks making their way through the EU Parliament.
