Oterra forges sustainability partnership targeting carbon emission cuts

Danish-based natural colours specialist Oterra, has confirmed a fresh partnership with HowGood food sustainability intelligence platform, in a bid to help its customers cut carbon emissions.
According to the two firms, their deal will provide Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) for selected products in the Oterra portfolio, giving customers more detailed data on the products they buy.
The collaboration is part of Oterra’s commitment to deliver on its 2030 Sustainability Strategy, which focuses on three interconnected pillars: Nature, Climate and People. Oterra will gain access to HowGood’s product carbon foot printing capabilities, helping the company better understand, measure and communicate the environmental impact of its products.
“Our customers are looking for greater transparency across their supply chains in order to reduce carbon emissions and other impacts,” said Vera Karmeback, Head of Global Sustainability at Oterra. “This partnership with HowGood provides the transparency, data and methodology needed to drive decarbonization in Oterra and our customers.”
Oterra already produces supply chain and site data, but this partnership helps connect that data to the product supplied to customers.
As part of the first phase of the collaboration, Oterra will develop Product Carbon Footprints for selected products using HowGood’s method and sustainability intelligence platform.
The insights will help customers understand and manage the footprint of the ingredients they buy from Oterra, for their own Scope 3 reporting and decarbonization work. It will also advance Oterra’s own efforts to advance decarbonization initiatives throughout its supply chain.
“Granular sustainability metrics are no longer a nice-to-have for food companies – they’re imperative to making meaningful progress in sustainability commitments, improving transparency with suppliers and consumers, and understanding the true environmental impact of their products,” said Rachel Calomeni, SVP of Growth & Innovation at HowGood.
“Partnering with Oterra as the company expands its sustainability capabilities and efforts to provide customers with greater visibility into the environmental impact of its products sets a tone for the rest of the industry – sustainability is not just a feel-good checkbox, it’s a significant business driver that enhances collaboration, consumer education, and long-term change for our planet and food systems.”
The announcement builds on the momentum of Oterra’s 2030 Sustainability Strategy, launched earlier this year. The strategy outlines ambitious targets across climate action, responsible sourcing, ecosystem protection and people development. A key element is working closely with partners, suppliers, and customers to accelerate meaningful progress beyond Oterra’s own operations.
“Partnerships are essential if we are to create lasting change,” Karmeback added. “Our sustainability strategy recognizes that collaboration across the value chain is critical. By combining Oterra’s deep expertise in naturally sourced colors with HowGood’s sustainability intelligence, we can help customers make more informed decisions and support the transition to a more sustainable food system.”
