After just over 50 years of operating under its trading identity, Scotland’s MacIntryre Chocolate systems has been formally incorporated into its parent Probat company branding, reports Neill Barston.
The Arbroath firm, which has its roots in its former guise of Low and Duff dating back to the 19th century, was acquired by the German business in 2013 – which itself has a equally distinguished history dating back well over a century, as part of broad group that includes its Hamburg Dresdner (HDM) processing lines, and Bauermeister milling machinery, as well as recently gaining Dutch-based cocoa processor, Royal Duyvis Wiener.
These, as well as other brands across the group, have now been formally brought under the Probat brand, which is capable of delivering full turnkey solutions across the business.
For its part, as we previously reported from Scotland, the company has enjoyed notable success down the decades, with its processing equipment being trusted by a wide range of brands and businesses around the world. This has been reflected by the company’s consistent presence at major trade events from ProSweets through to Interpack – with the company due to participate in the latest iteration of the event in Düsseldorf this May.

Notably, MacIntyre’s flagship refiner conche is set to continue under its new guise, with the group now able to offer a more differentiated presence in the food manufacturing sector under one banner to create a single identity for its business units.

Joseph Gorman, MacIntyre Chocolate Systems’ managing director (pictured above), welcomed the company’s move, as it seeks to draw its global operations closer together/
He said: “Joining forces under the Probat brand marks an exciting new chapter for MacIntyre and our customers. This integration allows us to combine our extensive knowledge of chocolate processing with Probat’s global strength and innovation, resulting in unparalleled end-to-end solutions. Together, we are better positioned than ever to help our customers succeed in a rapidly evolving market.”
Over the past two years, the parent company has significantly strengthened its role in the global cocoa, chocolate, and snack sectors through the acquisitions of Royal Duyvis Wiener and AC Horn.
As the company added, by transferring technology and harmonising operations across divisions, the business now markets its products and services seamlessly across multiple segments. Aligning all corporate brands under the umbrella amplifies brand visibility across the global food industry and underscores the company’s long-term ambition to further expand its share in the food processing market.
Wim Abbing, CEO of Probat, enthused that the move would drive further progress for its international operations.
He said: “Bringing all our brands together under the PROBAT name creates a unified identity that boosts our strength in the global market. This approach allows us to leverage combined expertise, deliver comprehensive turnkey solutions across multiple segments, and offer customers a seamless experience.
“It is a decisive step that maximises our reach and reinforces our position as the leading force in food processing,” explains following the announcement of the latest expansion of the Probat brand, which has delivered a total of more than 155 years of engineering experience .
