Syntegon seeks net zero targets by 2040, underpinning key sustainability report

Equipment and systems group Syntegon has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving net zero goals by 2040 and other key environmental impact measures in its latest sustainability report, writes Neill Barston.
As the company noted, its latest study covering 2024, it has asserted key progress in social, and governance topics with a focus on sustainable solutions and reinforces Syntegon’s long-term ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
Moreover, as Confectionery Production has previously covered, the business has continued to place sustainability at the heart of its operations, from its physical premises, through to advanced efficiency measures made across its manufacturing operations.
In addition, the company asserted that its strategy rests on three pillars: environmental stewardship, social empowerment, and responsible governance. Across all business areas, the company strives to reduce its environmental footprint, cultivate a safe and inclusive workplace, and uphold the highest ethical standards.

While he acknowledge that it was very much a question of an ongoing process of improving its operations, he was optimistic of attaining its targets.
Speaking in its report, he added: “As we launched our new strategy, sustainability wasn’t just part of the plan, it was a core element. One of the most important milestones in 2024 was the validation of our climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement. Looking even further ahead, we have now pledged to reach net zero by 2040 – a bold ambition that underscores our long-term contribution to climate improvement.
“Our efforts are being recognized externally as well. In April 2025, EcoVadis awarded Syntegon a Platinum rating, placing us in the top 1% of companies worldwide. This recognition reflects the deep commitment of our teams around the world to sustainability, innovation, and responsible business practices.
We also continued to invest in our people. Through initiatives like our “Grow” talent development program and local engagement events, we are fostering a growth mindset and strengthening a culture of inclusion and shared purpose.”
As the business noted, In 2024, Syntegon embedded sustainability factors into strategic and operational decisions, enhanced board-level oversight, and increased transparency ahead of upcoming regulatory requirements such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The company formed a dedicated sustainability team, driving the implementation of its sustainability roadmap and preparing for the CSRD.
One of the most important milestones was the validation of the company’s climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This endorsement confirms Syntegon’s commitment to reduce emissions aligned with the 1.5 C goal of the Paris Agreement. The sustainability report demonstrates tangible progress, with the company achieving a 36% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to 2019 and a 7% decrease in energy consumption year-on-year.
Employee development was also a priority, with more than 9,400 digital training courses. Initiatives in workplace safety, well-being, and diversity contributed to a more resilient and inclusive organizational culture. “Our approach is clear: We embed sustainability directly into our operational processes, where it creates the most lasting impact,” said Petros Kapelles, Chief Operations Officer of Syntegon. “From emissions to education, every step matters. EcoVadis Platinum reflects our strong sustainability commitment.”
Similarly, Syntegon placed among the top 1% of companies by EcoVadis
In April 2025, Syntegon was awarded the Platinum rating by EcoVadis, placing it in the top 1% of more than 150,000 companies evaluated worldwide for sustainability performance. The rating acknowledges excellence in environmental impact, labor practices, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
