Development work has begun on a major investment from UK-based Swizzels confectionery, which is creating new manufacturing and distribution facilities at Middlewich in Cheshire, reports Neill Barston.

The 158,000 square foot site is being undertaken by the GM Construction Group, appointed by Magnitude Land, a joint venture between Tritax Symmetry and NPLL, with teams holding a groundbreaking ceremony with members of the project team (pictured main image).

After setting out on the scheme located at the ‘Ma6nitude’ logistics and industrial site at the start of the year, it is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, and represents the first phase of a 458,000 square foot venture from Swizzels.

Marc Banks, divisional marketing director at GMI Construction Group, said: “We are delighted to have been instructed by Tritax to construct this important facility.

“This follows our successful appointment on the adjacent plot, where we are constructing two speculative warehouse units. We have enjoyed a strong and expanding working relationship with Tritax and we look forward to delivering another high quality outcome for them.”

David Nuttall, development director at Tritax Symmetry, added that he believed the new project would offer ‘an exceptional facility’ for Swizzels, and hoped that it is set to pave the way for further extensions to the site in 2023.
