European Cocoa Association set for EU due diligence online seminar

The European Cocoa Association is staging an online seminar discussing policy areas for the EU’s approach to due diligence in supply chains, which is set to prove a major issue in devising support measures for producing nations.

Among the key speakers for its membership event on 4 March are Shivani Kannabhiran, Sector Lead-Supply Chain DueDiligence,OECD, Lara Wolters, Member of the EU Parliament and Duncan Brack, Environmental Policy Analyst & Adviser.

They will be discussing due diligence and offer recommendations for the cocoa sector – which the EU has pledged to engage with further in devising specific policies to support core supplying nations, including Ivory Coast and Ghana that make up 60% of the market.

In addition, the seminar will also include a presentation from Doru Frantescu, co-founder & CEO, VoteWatch Europe, who will examine EU Institutions and their respective roles in the decision making process, as well as exploring the bloc’s legislative powers and procedures and how to advance business interests in the EU.

The organisation, which was founded in 2000 and is presently chaired by Cargill president Harold Poelma, aims to address a number of key issues facing the industry, including an increasing regulations impacting on markets, the impact of globalisation and addressing sustainability within the supply chain.
