Barry Callebaut joins sustainable sugar cane production movement

Cocoa and chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut has joined Bonsucro, the global platform for sugarcane.

Bonsucro is a multi-stakeholder organisation which brings together industry representatives and NGOs to work on a sustainable cane sugar value chain. Becoming a member in Bonsucro will enable Barry Callebaut to drive sustainable solutions for cane-growing communities and ecosystems.

Sugar is also a key ingredient in chocolate; as a result, this step will further facilitate Barry Callebaut’s Forever Chocolate sustainability journey towards achieving 100% sustainable ingredients in its products by 2025.

Steve Woolley, vice president of sourcing, Americas, Barry Calebaut, says, “We recognise the value a pre-competitive platform can bring, creating more effective and impactful change within sugarcane. We look forward to working with peers, customers, suppliers and other Bonsucro members to drive sustainability in this sector.”
