Tony’s Chocolonely issues recall on bars and hollow chocolate eggs

Dutch-founded impact brand Tony’s Chocolonely has moved to issue a product recall of several of its chocolate bars, amid reports of products contaminated with small stones that have reportedly been lined to the sourcing of ingredients for its ranges, writes Neill Barston.

According to the Amsterdam-headquartered business, there was a low risk of being affected, the company said the move to withdraw items was being done as a precaution to ensure the satisfaction and safety of its customers.

The three products affected are the Dark Almond Sea Salt 180g and 90g bars and the Everything (UK) Melk Karamel Amandel Noga Pretzel Zeezout (NL) Greatest Bits (DACH) with specific lot codes.

As the company noted, a lot code is a unique identifier assigned to a specific batch or quantity of products manufactured under the same conditions, used for tracking and traceability. It is printed on the side of the bar starting with the letters L or LG. As the business added, the recall only affects these specific products and lot codes.

Confectionery Production understands a separate recall was made shortly after and has been issued to retailers in the UK regarding concerns over the potential presence of fragments of metal in hollow milk chocolate easter egg ranges from Tony’s.

The affected items relating to the stone issue are Dark Almond sea salt 180g batch codes 162633, 162613, 163061, 163472, with best before 28 February 2026, to 22 April 2026, as well as sthe Everything Bar, 180g Batch code 4331 4332 4333, Best before 26 November 2025 27 November 2025 28 November 2025.

The company commented on its website: “Do you have a bar with the impacted lot number(s)? Please don’t eat the chocolate. Instead, we kindly ask you that you return the product to the store where you bought it for a refund or replacement.”
