Plans for US Peepsfest New Year confectionery celebrations gather pace

Plans are fast taking shape for one of America’s most colourful festive confectionery events is set to return this year, Peepsfest, in Bethlehem Pennsylvania, celebrating the achievements of the classic Peeps brand of sweets, and its centrepiece giant ‘chick drop,’ writes Neill Barston.

The third-generation family-owned candy manufacturer, which is behind a number of other well-established confectionery ranges including, Mike and Ike, Hot Tamales, and Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews.

Its two-day family festival between December 30-31 is filled with new and returning family-friendly activities including the iconic dropping of the 400lbs Peeps Chick Drop and a “Sneak-PEEP” tasting of select Easter 2024 Peeps Marshmallow offerings during the ‘Peepsonality Family Fun Run & Walk’.

As previously reported, 2023 has been an exceptional milestone for the business that has celebrated its centenary during 2023, as its brands continue to maintain a strong presence in the market.

Significantly, as the business has highlighted, less than one per cent of all family-owned companies in America have made it to the momentous milestone, with the company particularly honoured by the occasion. There was also a poignant moment at the start of the year, as Ira “Bob” Born passed away peacefully on the morning of January 29, at the age of 98, having joined the business just after the Second World War, being the son of the company’s founder Sam Born.

-This year’s Peepsfest entry fee i s $5 per person (all ages), and  includes a variety of activities and a Just Born Quality Confections goodie bag for all kids under 12. Upgrade your ticket ($25) for skate rentals and access to the ice rink
