Seed and Bean ethical chocolate expands presence with Sainsbury’s listing

Ethical chocolate brand Seed and Bean has gained a key new listing with UK retailer Sainsbury’s, which will see three of its adventurously flavoured bars available this summer, considerably expanding its distribution.

Since launch in 2005, the British handmade chocolate producer, which specialises in organic ranges, has been at the forefront of the green movement and seven years ago, was the very first bar to move to fully compostable foil.

Its 18-strong range of Fairtrade and vegan chocolate is already available through Ocado, Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic, John Lewis Food Hall, and this new Sainsbury’s listing will see the brand’s Coconut & Raspberry, Mandarin & Ginger and Lavender Dark Chocolate going into 209 Sainsbury’s store at £2.95 each.

Co-Owner of Seed and Bean, Oliver Shorts, (pictured) commented: “I could not be happier to see three of our bars going into Sainsbury’s and becoming available to customers nationwide. It’s the
first time our brand will be available in bricks and mortar stores across the UK, and despite the challenging times over Brexit and Covid-19, it goes to shows what years of hard work can
achieve. We were the first brand to introduce compostable packaging and have stayed true to our values and ethos by creating an adventurous range of chocolate, and it feels wonderful.”
to get the recognition of this with a 209 store listing. I’m so excited that we can inject some fun into the premium chocolate sector.”

Each bar is crafted with cocoa beans from some of the world’s finest Fairtrade producing regions and made in the UK using natural, Soil Association Organic ingredients (which is
notably a higher and more stringent regulation than normal organic standards). The brand exclusively uses ethically sourced ingredients, and is also dedicated to using fully recyclable paper wrapping and compostable foil to keep the chocolate fresh.

Seed and Bean is the only chocolate brand in the UK to offer these credentials and, as such, is well positioned to support retailers in offering a truly ethical and eco-aware product which
has strong appeal in the current consumer climate.
