Mars Wrigley set to recruit eight Willy Wonkas

The sweetest of job opportunities is being offered by Mars Wrigley as it seeks eight professional chocolate tasters to join their team at the chocolate HQ in Slough, UK.

As the company explained to Confectionery Production, there is no experience necessary and candidates are encouraged to apply if they consider themselves to have “good taste buds”.

According to the business, there will be a rigorous interview process will see candidates rating different foods on a scale from 1 to 15 for how sweet, savoury, bitter or salty each product is, as part of its ongoing research and development work.

For the successful candidates, there will be six months of intensive taste training before beginning work as a real-life Willy Wonka. The process will involve teaching the brain to identify the different scents, flavours tastes and textures of chocolate.

Linda Lopez, senior sensory manager, Mars Wrigley, said: “We are thrilled to be recruiting for our next group of Chocolate Tasters. We encourage anyone that has an interest in the textures and tastes of chocolate to apply – we’ll train you in the rest.”

Key responsibilities include assessing a wide range of confectionery products, participating in product and sensory related training, and successfully applying this learning to the day to day job. Candidates will also be given the responsibility to identify new ways to eat products and will be involved in new product development.
