Conscious Chocolate gains major product development investment
Confectionery brand Conscious Chocolate has undergone a relaunch with investment from Fortissimo Group, which has enabled reformulation work on the company’s product range.
The revamp has also included brand re-designs, extension of its bar series, as well as increased marketing support for the business.
As the company explained to Confectionery Production, the new recipes include the replacement of fructose-heavy agave syrup with coconut blossom sugar, which boasts a higher level of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, while the high-quality cacao ensures the chocolate’s ‘snap’, making it residue-free on fingers while eating.
Launched in 2004 by founder and recipe developer, Emma Jackman, Conscious Chocolate is considered among the original original raw chocolate businesses. It has developed a succession of flavours including orange and tangerine, peppermint and Love Potion No.9, while preserving an unmistakably creamy taste, not usually found in raw confectionery products.
Conscious Chocolate bars have also been resized from 50g to 60g (bucking the trend amongst most larger chocolate manufacturers), are complete with compostable packaging and film and will maintain their original price points.
High in fibre and suitable for coeliacs and vegans, Conscious Chocolate’s renewed vigour showcases a
delicious step towards bringing healthier chocolate into the mainstream, without sparing the exquisite
flavour and unmistakeable qualities of more visible brands. The officially relaunched at the Natural and Organic Products Show earlier this month.
Speaking to Confectionery Production, Emma Jackman believed there was a growing market for its brand, focusing on offering healthier choices with the confectionery sector.
She said: “Conscious, the original raw chocolate pioneer, takes the joys of chocolate to another level. This is an ‘actively healthy bar’ with the raw processing keeping the integrity of the ingredients, vitamins and minerals in tact by the lack of heat.
“Smooth and creamy, our bars bars are always raw, vegan and organic, free from dairy, soya, gluten and refined sugars but bursting with taste. Having worked hard to avoid compromising we can now offer a bar that boasts a home compostable film and board that is made from vegetable inks with a water based varnish.”
