Dozens of confectionery businesses set to exhibit through German Sweets at ISM

A total of 70 German confectionery companies will be represented by the German Sweets trade organisation at this year’s ISM held in Cologne from this weekend.

They will be exhibiting and demonstrating a diverse and innovative range of products that include everything from chocolate to sugar confectionery, biscuits, snacks, cereals and raw pastes.

As the trade group explained to Confectionery Production, In 2017, exports already increased by 1% in volume compared to 2016. Especially chocolate products (up 5 per cent), sugar confectionery (up 3.2 per cent) and raw pastes (up 2.3%) were able to increase their exports in the last year. Around one in seven semi-finished products produced in Germany are exported to countries outside the EU.

They are mainly delivered to customers in Switzerland, the Russian Federation, the United States, Ukraine and Canada.
Within the EU, Germany’s top exports markets are Poland, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

There has also been a similar pattern of exports for raw pastes. For this category also Denmark, Japan, Thailand and Israel are important markets. However, despite many trade policy challenges like Brexit or the trade conflicts between the US and China, confectionery exporters are optimistic about the upcoming trade fair year.

– The German Sweets team is looking forward to meeting visitors to its pavilion at the event at Hall 10.2. D050/E053.
