Confectionery awards presented in Australasia
Two of the Australasian confectionery industry’s best students were presented with the prestigious Craig Award and the Sollich Award at the industry’s premier annual conference in the region, ConTechPlus, held in Melbourne recently.
Each year the industry celebrates excellence in confectionery study at the Confectionery Manufacturers of Australasia’s (CMA) annual conference, ConTechPlus, where the two best William Angliss Institute (WAI) students are awarded respectively the Craig Award and the Sollich Award.
CMA chief executive Trish Hyde notes, “The awards are an important acknowledgement of the hard work students put into the course and provides encouragement for them to excel, which in turn creates highly qualified and trained industry professionals.”
The Craig Award was presented to Melanie Bartlett in recognition of her outstanding achievement as the best student in the Confectionery Manufacturing Technical Course by correspondence.
Accepting the award from WAI Chief Executive, Nicholas Hunt, Melanie said she enjoyed the course because it covered all aspects of the confectionery industry and taught her the skills and techniques she is currently using in her role as Senior Technologist ” Outsourced Manufacturing at Nestle Australia.
The Craig award is presented annually in recognition of the Craig Family’s long involvement in the Australasian confectionery industry.
The Sollich Award was presented to Jordana Grow for best student in the Certificate IV in Food Science and Technology Specialising in Confectionery Manufacture Course by Director of Allied Industries, Martin Crumpton.
Jordana said her passion for food, especially confectionery and her intense desire to be the best she could in her chosen field, led her to undertake the course at WAI. She praised the course, saying it was hands-on and provided students with practical skills that were useful working in the industry.
As part of its on-going support of the Australian confectionery industry, Sollich of Germany presents the annual award through its representative in Australia, Allied Industries.
