Liverpool business, Renshaw, manufacturer of baking ingredients, has held an internal poll to decide which charities the company will support for the year ahead, setting a target of £10,000 for the chosen causes.

The 320 strong staff at the Crown Street site voted to split the money generated between Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Alzheimer’s Society, with many members of the business having personal connections to the two charities.

With a number of fundraising activities having happened so far, the business is well on its way to reaching its target. A recent ‘Race Night’, held at Mount Carmel social club, and attended by more than 100 staff and their friends and family raised over £1,300, which will be added to the overall total and divided at the end of the year.

With other projects also in operation, aimed at wider audiences, a recipe booklet was created on behalf of Marie Curie and distributed at recent trade shows ‘Cake International’ and ‘The Cake and Bake Show’, raising over £500 with plans for a similar activity underway for the autumn/winter baking season.

Sian Mansley from the Renshaw Charity Committee said of the business’s commitment to the chosen causes, “as the voice of the business, Renshaw staff were able to choose which causes the business should support in an internal vote.

“The results were split down the middle with our two chosen causes, The Alzheimer’s Society and Marie Curie Cancer Care and we have a number of exciting projects coming up this summer that we’re very much looking forward to and hope will ensure we move closer to our overall target.”

Members of the Renshaw team will also be taking part in the Memory Walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society at Aintree Race Course in September and an educational talk was held at the company during Dementia Awareness Week this May.

Renshaw also recently hosted its own version of ‘Great British Bake Off’ in aid of the company charities.  Taking place on 8 July, all staff were invited to enter and the Bake Off enjoyed a fantastic response.

Nic Hemming, one of the panel Judges said, “It was great to see so many entries and the standard was incredibly high. We were also impressed by the creativity and variety, giving the judges a difficult decision the make! With a tasty chocolate and raspberry coming out on top, the event raised over £200 towards our total goal.”
