17 July 2010 – Tate & Lyle has fully commissioned its new Sta-Lite Polydextrose line in Koog, the Netherlands. The new facility, which is the first of its kind in Europe, was built in response to the increasing demand for functional food ingredients.

Jerome Tauzin, product manager, comments, “We are proud to be sole manufacturer of Polydextrose in Europe which means our European customers will benefit from a shortened supply chain and further reduced costs. Many people are aware that fibre can bring health benefits and in particular in maintaining digestive health.”

With only one kcal/gram, Sta-Lite Polydextrose is a low calorie bulking agent used to provide body and texture in reduced calorie, no added sugar and/or high fibre foods. It also has prebiotic properties.

Its process stability enables manufacturers to develop new healthier versions of a wide range of foods and beverage products at a low cost-in-use. The ingredient is available in liquid and powder form.
