30 August 2012 – Ulrick & Short has been awarded a 0.1 per cent non-GM certification covering its manufactured and sold ingredients. The highly sought after certification has been granted by the internationally acclaimed and BRC accredited independent certifying body Cert ID Europe.

Following a series of intensive raw material and product tests, which were carried out by Cert ID’s team of external auditors, Ulrick & Short’s ingredients have proven to be well below the EU’s adventitious GM legal labelling contamination limit, which currently stands at 0.9 percent.

The Cert ID non-GM Standard is an all-encompassing assessment of ingredients within the entire supply chain and is an industry recognised benchmark for non-GM identity preservation that is widely valued by major retailers and brands worldwide.

This highly specialist standard not only assess identity preservation systems but also integrates HACCP with PCR testing to accurately verify that production, handling and quality systems are all non-GM.

Ulrick & Short’s director, Adrian Short comments, "With this third party independent certification, our customers can be assured that all of our ingredients comply with the 0.1 per cent maximum adventitious limit. Thanks to the advancement in reliable sensitivity testing technology, some of our ingredients are even capable of proving less than 0.1 percent and are the purest on the market.

"Despite potentially challenging supply chain issues in the future, Ulrick & Short is committed to providing non-GM ingredients to food processors. Our non-GM credentials have been confirmed by this internationally recognised accreditation, giving customers the added peace of mind that our ingredients are what they say on the tin – GM free."

A legal limit for GM labelling was established at 0.9 percent by the EU as a compromise to take into account the fact that due to the level of GM material already in circulation, small levels of cross-contamination are very difficult to avoid.

However, through the assessment carried out by Cert ID, Ulrick & Short can prove that its raw materials and finished ingredients are at the lowest possible contamination limit, putting the company one step ahead of much of its competition.

This exceptional accomplishment has been down to a culmination of the company’s rigorous internal procedures, policies and technical audits as well as its forward thinking vision in selecting only the highest quality raw materials and its dedication to adopting first-class manufacturing techniques.
