21 July 2011 – Increasing demand from the food industry for high quality printed films and bags & pouches has driven Mercury Packaging to purchase a UTECO ‘Eclipse’ Solventless Digital Laminator for installation at its plant in Nottinghamshire by the end of August 2011.

The environmentally friendly and compact UTECO Eclipse Laminator, which will complement Mercury Packaging’s £1.3million eight colour UTECO Onyx flexographic gearless print press, will enable the company to offer printing, lamination and slitting, all under one roof, and help strengthen its position in the food industry with particular focus on the snack & dried food, tea & coffee and confectionery sectors.

Tony Stanger, managing director at Mercury Packaging (pictured) comments, “Over the past few years we have expanded our premises, purchased a new press and acquired the Certiforms business as part of our objective to further penetrate the food industry.

Stanger continues, “This has increased our production capacity and we needed a laminating system which would facilitate the increased demand for high quality printed film laminates and bags & pouches. The laminator will also help open up previously untapped markets such as horticulture, medical and healthcare.”

The UTECO Eclipse laminator has a web width up to 1300mm and is capable of handling a variety of materials such as polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene and metallised films. It offers a wide range of market leading features including on machine quick change of the roller sleeve; efficient exhaust of the residual coating vapours; easy access for cleaning and maintenance purposes; energy saving and an operator touch screen control panel with colour graphics.
