AHD launches chia seed flour
Producers of finished baked goods looking for a gluten-free, omega-3-rich alternative to white flour can now look to AHD International’s Chia Flour, the latest offering from the distributor of nutraceutical and functional food ingredients.
Chia Flour can be used in place of white flour in any baked goods including a variety of breads and baked snacks, cakes, cookies and brownies. The flour’s high omega-3 and fibre content can help to maintain healthy blood glucose levels and promote healthy cholesterol levels.
“Chia flour allows baked goods manufacturers to expand offerings targeted toward consumers suffering from gluten intolerance or coeliac disease, as well as those looking for an enhanced nutritional profile,” says John Alkire, AHD International president.
Chia seeds are a gluten-free, vegetarian wholefood naturally rich in omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids, dietary fibre, antioxidants, calcium, protein, amino acids, as well as a range of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Unlike grains such as flaxseed, they are highly stable due to their antioxidant content and won’t compromise the shelf life of finished goods.
