India’s Haldiram’s offers a slice of summer ice cream luxury

With the UK confirming its record fifth heatwave of the summer, it’s little wonder that ice cream markets are benefitting – with Haldiram’s the latest to engage in the market with six new flavours, reports Neill Barston.
As the business explained to Confectionery Production, its latest series, which is available at its flagship Leicester Square restaurant, draw inspiration from some of India’s best-loved desserts, drinks and flavour combinations.
Among its offerings are: Royal Rose Falooda, Jamun Kala Khatta, Choco Mocha, Milk Cake Crumble, Saffron & Mango, and Masala Chai, completing a range that has set its stall out to offer something out of the ordinary.
Moreover, as the company has previously revealed to our title, it has sought to break out of its Indian heritage and capture a slice of the British market through offering a fusion of flavours for its wider snacking range, that blends tradition with innovation.
Priced at £4.50 per scoop, its ice cream range has been designed to introduce consumers to a different side of Indian food culture through flavours rarely found on traditional UK ice cream menus.
As the company noted, some of the strongest performers so far include Jamun Kala Khatta, a vegan sorbet inspired by the nostalgic Indian kala khatta flavour and Masala Chai, which transforms one of India’s most iconic beverages into an indulgent frozen dessert.
Many of the flavours take inspiration from traditional Indian sweets and drinks. Milk Cake Crumble features pieces of real milk cake folded through the ice cream, while Royal Rose Falooda is inspired by the classic rose-flavoured dessert drink. Saffron & Mango combines Alphonso mango with saffron, while Masala Chai brings the distinctive blend of tea and spices into a new format.
As the business added, the range has been developed exclusively for Haldiram’s Leicester Square restaurant, bringing a fresh take on some of India’s best-loved desserts and drinks to the heart of London.
Rhea Agarwal, Commercial Director, UK & EU at Haldiram’s, said: ‘Since opening in Leicester Square, we’ve seen growing interest in South Asian desserts and flavours. These ice creams are inspired by some of India’s most-loved drinks and sweet treats, offering customers the chance to discover something a little different while staying true to the flavours we know and love.’
