Ambitious teams at Netherlands-based Tanis Confectionery are taking on a major challenge as they attempt to claim a new international record to deliver the World’s largest gummy sweet, reports Neill Barston.
The company’s engineers have been laying the groundwork for their tasty task, which is anticipated to form a centrepiece of its appearance at this year’s Interpack event in Dusseldorf, Germany.
With decades of experience in the confectionery processing sector to its name, the business, which has devised a broad scope of systems for gums and jellies, is eagerly awaiting its return to the key trade fair, which takes place between 4-10 May.

Wouter Tanis, chief marketing officer for the business, spoke to Confectionery Production on his hopes for gaining the record attempt, and explained the team was optimistic of success with its mega gummy mould.
He said: “We are just crazy about candy production, so this is a record that we have to have. So when the idea came up. This was a no brainer,” he said of the attempt, noting that its teams had undergone the initial phase for the company’s bid, and are now awaiting the results of the demoulding process to determine its success.
As the company added of the attempt, the process of developing the largest gummy bear in the world is similar to developing other gummies. From developing a recipe, making a mould to the actual production and moulding of the gummy bear. But it added, the scale of the project, with approximate dimensions of 2 ½ x 2 x 1 metres is ‘unfamiliar territory’ for anyone in the industry, yet the experience of its teams is expected to prove decisive. The results of its record attempt are to be examined by an official Guinness World Record representative.
The business is due to feature as part of our full Interpack preview, which is set to be released shortly, with the company explaining that it will be showcasing a number of systems at the major trade fair, including lines targeting the nutraceutical sector, as well as processing systems for wider gummy and jellies confectionery segments.
