Montezuma’s delivers latest nature-linked chocolate with Royal Botanic Gardens editions

UK-based premium confectionery brand Montezuma’s has unveiled a key new nature-inspired chocolate series in a special collaboration with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in London, writes Neill Barston.

The West-Sussex headquartered firm’s latest selection of bars and truffles has emerged from studies of the diverse plants and flowers within the UNESCO world heritage site.

As the company explained, its head chocolatier spent a year with the team at Kew, exploring the gardens and experimenting with the flavour profiles of the botanicals within its collection.

Consequently, the company’s latest range was born, including a selection of 16 truffles including  Hibiscus – dark & white, Bergamot & Orange, Salted Almond (milk chocolate with almond & sea salt truffle), and Lemon & Lavender – white & milk chocolate with lavender & lemon truffle.

Its bar offering, in library case form, features five flavours consisting of Dark chocolate with orange & geranium, Milk chocolate with caramelised salted hazelnuts,  Milk chocolate with cocoa nibs & vanilla, Dark chocolate with almond & cherry, White chocolate with raspberry.

As managing director Bruce Alexander explained, the business is also celebrating an extension to a key distribution agreement with Waitrose retail stores in the UK, as the business continues to grow its portfolio.

He said: “We have been working closely with Waitrose for the past few years and they have been hugely supportive; however, a few months ago, I met Giles Fisher in our Guildford shop and his challenge was to create a gifting bay in 30 Waitrose stores. Since then, the team have been frantically busy creating new products and concepts. We have several more products in development and these will come on stream in the next few months.

The reason I am immensely proud is that this bay was previously occupied by a major high street chocolate retailer so this is a huge coup for Montezuma’s. A massive thanks to the team at Waitrose.”
