Canine delight for English Doodle crowned 2022’s ‘Cadbury Bunny’

The fourth annual US competition to be the Cadbury Easter bunny has been won by Annie Rose, an English Doodle from Ohio, who will don the bunny ears for this year’s Cadbury Clucking Bunny commercial.

Since 2019, Cadbury USA has encouraged customers to submit their animal friends into the competition to raise money for The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The brand promised to donate US$5,000 to the ASPCA, plus a further $5,000 for every incremental 5,000 votes received, up to a total $20,000. The popularity of the event enabled Cadbury USA to donate the full amount to the charity.

The entries were narrowed down to a shortlist of ten by a judging panel comprising the three previous victors: Henri the English Bulldog (2019), Lieutenant Dan (2020) and Betty the Frog (2021) who comment that it was a difficult decision making process, undoubtedly made harder by the presumed cross-species language barrier.

“A huge thanks goes out to all of the amazing contestants that made selecting this year’s top 10 so difficult and a big congratulations to our newest Cadbury Bunny, Annie Rose,” said Teal Liu, Cadbury brand manager. “From cats and dogs to sugar gliders and hedgehogs, cuteness and creativity was not in short supply when it came to this year’s finalists.”
This shortlist of finalists was then opened up for public vote from which America crowned Annie Rose, a therapy dog, the title. Annie Rose visits care homes in Ohio to bring the residents some doggy cheer, and when Covid meant she could no longer go inside, she dressed up and paraded outside the windows; much needed work experience for when she dresses up as the Easter bunny for the Cadbury commercial.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for voting for our very own Annie Rose and making her the next Cadbury Bunny, especially her doodle families and friends who went over and beyond,” said Lori R., Annie Rose’s owner. “Our community rallied behind and supported her just as she has for them for years as a therapy dog. All of us are still shocked by the news but can’t wait to get Annie Rose those iconic Cadbury Bunny ears.”
