Tony’s Chocolonely and Brewdog release fundraising beer inspired by white chocolate and raspberry bar

This week has seen the limited edition release of Dutch-founded premium chocolate business Tony’s Chocolonely’s collaboration beer with Scottish craft brewer BrewDog, writes Neill Barston.
As Confectionery Production recently reported on its development, details of their distinctive offering first emerged two months ago, with the two brands seeking to raise funds supporting cocoa farmers in West Africa.
The limited edition ‘Tony’s Hopolonely’ brew is inspired by Tony’s white chocolate raspberry and popping candy bar which comes in a bright pink wrapper. The result is a white chocolate and raspberry milkshake IPA (5.7%) which combines sweetness and sharp fruit with a bold mouthfeel that gives this beer style its name – milkshake. The nose is all sweet and sharp raspberries with hints of milky chocolate; on the pallet it’s a decadent and dessert-like experience that marries what BrewDog and Tony’s do best.
As the businesses noted, the partnership is not just about the beer; it is the synergy of two outspoken, BCorp brands with an aligned vision to make the world a better place through better business, beer and chocolate. For every can sold, BrewDog will make a donation to The Chocolonely Foundation, which supports projects to improve the lives of cocoa communities in West Africa.
James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog explains: “At BrewDog we have huge respect for Tony’s Chocolonely, their amazing brand mission and commitment to quality. We felt an affinity with them as they are purpose-led with a clear goal to make the world a better place. We share that vision. It was a no-brainer that we’d turn one of their chocolate bars into a beer, so after multiple tastings (someone’s got to do it) we thought it would be original to pass on doing a dark beer and develop a recipe that pushes the boundaries, which is why we landed on the white chocolate and raspberry milkshake IPA. This feels like the start of something that will continue, too, and we’re keen to collaborate with Tony’s more in the future,” he said of the limited edition 4 packs of 330ml cans that are now available Europe-wide and can be purchased online from the BrewDog online shop.
Henk Jan Beltman, Chief Chocolate Officer at Tony’s Chocolonely comments: “We are proud to partner with BrewDog on this exciting collaboration that not only combines our products, but most importantly unites our ambitions to leave our world more beautiful than we found her. Cheers to making the world a better place!”
